De Sis II

In situ work for Konvooi, Entrepot Brugge
Two wooden treadmills were anchored in the concrete, opposing one another. Each powered by two people, a big block of limestone, 1,2 tonnes, could be pulled back and forth.

The installation shows the human in a position of power, what big works we are capable of with some simple low technologie. Yet the endless nonsensical back and forth movement questions to what use we put all our efforts. Situated in the harbour of Bruges the installation is surrounded by shipping containers and big cranes and reflects on us needing to drag stuff halfway around the globe to support our modern lifestyle.
On four moments during the Konvooi festival Anouk Neyens and Anne Willem performed around the moving rock, improvising on a theme by Bach on sax and oboe.

The title is derived from the Greek myth of Sisyphus and Albert Camus his essays.
